Do you know the tale of the Snow Queen? Like all good fairy tales, it's a scary story of magic, beauty, danger and redemption. It's about a poor child named Kay who looks into a mirror wrought by an evil troll. The mirror breaks and he's pierced by a shard, which distorts his vision and enchants his heart. The Snow Queen finds him and takes him away to her snowy palace. She tells him that she will set him free when he can spell the word 'eternity' with the ice in her palace.
Kay's friend Gerta finds him; they embrace and 'eternity' appears around them. The spell is broken.
This is one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beautiful stories. I very highly recommend the wonderful Ukranian children's book, The Snow Queen, with illustrations by Vladyslav Yerko. You can view a slideshow of Yerko's gorgeous work here: http://www.snowqueen.us/slideshow.html

I promise your heart will feel enchanted too.

Wow! That is absolutely adorable. I especially love the way he depicts all the animals. It's actually snowing here right now, so the timing could not have been better. Thanks.
