It is Beltane. As I joyously celebrate this day of purification, transition, fertility and the return of abundance to the Earth, I am reminded that Mother Goddess' gifts are so often abused and threatened. At this moment, 200,000 gallons of oil a day are spilling into the Gulf of Mexico, threatening the rich and abundant wildlife, and the fragile ecostructure, of the region.
And so today, whether you celebrate the ancient fire festival of Beltane or not, I ask that you send a prayer of healing to Deity for our beautiful planet Earth, and for all of the humans, animals, fish, fowl and plantlife we share it with.

The situation in the Gulf of Mexico really is tragic. But at the very least it is garning attention on behalf of the environment and perhaps making many more people aware of the dangerous involved with of our over-dependence on oil.
